Thin or immersed whitish, beige or pale brown thallus. Numerous grouped or scattered apothecia, reddish to dark brown, often +/- immersed. Spores are 7-10(-12) (2-)2.5-3.5(-4) m. Paraphyses with dark swollen tips. The photobiont is Dictyochloropsis. Microscope photograph below. Chemical results negative

Common on limestone, calcareous rocks and building materials.

Similar: Catillaria chalybeia is found on siliceous rocks
