Order: Lecanorales Family: Parmeliaceae
Species: Usnea florida Dense, shrubby, +/- erect grey-green thallus, base persistly blackened, and the main stems with minute papillae and numerous fibrils. Soredia and isidia are absent, but it is usually fertile with large apothecia surrounded by ray-like projections. Very sensitive to ammonia pollution but can be found in exposed, well-lit habitats, usually on deciduous twigs and branches in the tree canopy. Occurs in southen and western Britain, but very rare in Ireland with only scattered records. Medulla K+ yellow, C-, KC-, P+ orange Can be confused with fertile Usnea subfloridana |
