Species: Toninia aromatica Photos: In limestone crack. Black Head, the Burren, W Ireland. BLS Burren meeting 2009 Thallus greyish, tinged brown or green. Rounded warted squamules with pale spots or ridges near centre. The numerous black compressed apothecia are often faintly pruinose. Asci are 8-spored, the spores 3-septate, 12-23 x 3-6 µm. Paraphyses have swollen, pigmented apical cells. Microscope photos below. Fairly common throughout Ireland on soft calcareous rocks and lime mortar. Epithecium green, K-. Similar: T. sedifolia. Thallus white or glaucous-pruinose. Epithecium greyish, K+ violet. Spores 1-septate. |
