Species: Phaeographis smithii

Growth type crustose.

Very similar to P. dentritica but with less-cracked, smoother thallus and flatter and less-branched lirellae. Base of the exciple is open. The asci are 8-spored and spores are brown (colourless when young), 5-7 septate, 26-40 x 7-10 µm. Microscope photos below.

Occurs on smooth, neutral to basic-barked trees and shrubs, most frequent in the western half of Ireland.
