Cladonia chlorophaea

Species: Cladonia chlorophaea agg.

Primary thallus squamulose, secondary thallus fruticose.
Photos: On rock in garden. Ballingeary, Cork, SW Ireland.

Small erect grey-green squamules with white under-surface. Podetia expands smoothly to wide cup, sometimes with marginal projections. Podetia and cups with small, granular soredia.

Common on rotting stumps, soil, peat, mossy banks.
Chemical reactions unreliable, usually K-, P+ red, UV-
Cladonia chlorophaea sens.str. P+ red, medulla UV-
Cladonia grayii. Acidic habitats, P+/- red, medulla UV+ blue-white
