Species: Biatoropsis hafellneri On Usnea cornuta, Commeen West, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Convex to sub-globose galls, later becoming constricted at base, pale pink to orangish (or sometimes brown), waxy-gelatinous when wet. Hymenium hyaline and containing numerous probasidia. The basidia are 2-celled, elongating laterally with a single transverse septum, 20-46 x 4-8 µm when mature. Basidiospores globose to subglobose, 5-8.5 x 5-9 µm. Recorded from the Usnea fragilescens aggregate, especially Usnea cornuta, often developing on broken fibrils. Similar: Biatoropsis usnearum forms similar galls on Usnea flavocardia, U. florida/subfloridana, U. fragilescens, U. glabrescens. |
