Species: Xanthoparmelia verruculifera Photos: On rock. Barley Cove, Co. Cork, SW Ireland. Large thallus, dull brown to dark blackish-brown lobes with coarse, clumped isidia that can form +/- contiguous patches. Underside of lobes black with simple rhizines. Apothecia with isidiate margins. Usually coastal on well-lit, siliceous rocks, also inland on horizontal surfaces. Scattered distribution in Ireland but possibly under recorded. Medulla: K-, C+ pink-red, KC+/- pink, UV+ white. Similar: Xanthoparmelia delisei and X. loxodes |
