Thallus forms small patches of grey-green or grey-brown areoles with apical green soralia. Green soredia, sometimes flecked bluish-grey. Prothallus is not evident. Apothecia are very rare, pale to blue-grey. Pycnidia occasional.

Found on acidic substrates, mossy tree trunks, twigs of trees, shrubs, gorse and heather, siliceous rocks and gravestones.
