Growth type crustose.

Deep-cracked thick yellow thallus, areolate with rounded, evenly shaped granules. Apothecia are occasional, dirty yellowish with simple spores.
Chemical reactions: K- (Caloplaca species are K+ red)

Infrequent on well-lit acidic rocks used as bird-perching sites. Scattered distribution throughout Ireland.
