Growth type crustose.

Olive to dark green, uncracked, smooth, shiny thallus with white prothallus. Small immersed perithecia.

Coastal on well-lit rocks from the centre of the littoral zone to LWM. Less frequent on sheltered shores and intolerant of silt. Chemical reactions negative.

Often parasited by Stigmidium marinum
