Species: Physcia tenella Photos: On ornamental Sorbus trunk. Macroom, Cork, SW Ireland. Small thallus with +/- erect, long, whitish-grey lobes covered with small pseudocyphellae, margins with long, whitish cilia. Lobe ends split revealing lip-shaped, cream coloured soralia. Dark apothecia. Pioneer species, usually occurs on nutrient-rich branches and twigs, occasional on rock. Thallus: K+ yellow. Medulla: K- Similar: P. adscendens. Hood-shaped lobe ends. Usually on rocks. Physcia dubia, lacks marginal cilia. |
