Species: Sticta fuliginosa Photos: On hazel and ash. The Burren and Gougane Barra, Ireland. Thallus +/- single-lobed. Rounded dark brown lobes, margins +/- down-turned when mature. Brown tomentose lower surface with conspicuous irregular cyphellae. Clusters of darker cylindrical isidia on lobe margins and surface. Apothecia rare with paler margins. Most frequent in the west of Ireland on damp mossy trees and rocks in old oceanic woodland. Chemical reactions negative. Thallus smells of fish when wet. Similar: Sticta sylvatica |
