Growth type foliose.

Thallus yellow-grey or bluish-grey, lobes adpressed, slightly broader at ends. Under surface black with short, simple rhizines. Isidia usually abundant, variable in form. Apothecia are occasional, discs red-brown, margins thin, crenulate, +/- isidiate.

Occurs on exposed siliceous rocks, roof tiles and walls in inland and coastal sites. Common and appears to be increasing.
