Growth type foliose.
Photos: On tree-trunks. Macroom and Ballineen, Cork, SW Ireland

Orbicular greenish-grey thallus. Lobes with light-brown or whitish under surface, darker-brown at centre. Farinose soredia rising from white, punctiform pseudocyphellae. Apothecia very rare, concave red-brown discs with smooth or slightly sorediate margins.

Common on trees throughout Ireland, also on siliceous rocks.
Medulla and soredia: KC+ red, C+ carmine-red, UV-

Similar: Punctelia borrei. Under surface black towards centre. Punctelia reddenda. Dark under surface, Medulla C-
P. jeckeri (P. ulophylla), Undersurface +/- tan. Lobe tips are brownish-grey, pruinose. Medulla C+ red
